Whale Watching

We went out on the boat on Monday. Phil and his dad went out early fishing, and then they picked up Katie, Jessie and me at around noon. We had lunch, did some bottom fishing (we caught 3 which we ate for dinner), and watched for whales. We saw a ton of whales breaching, but the best was when we where sitting still while bottom fishing and they popped up about 200 yards away. There were at least 4 of them, and they got closer and closer and closer. Unfortunately we were drifting towards the shore pretty fast, so we had to start up the engine and get out of there, before we washed up on the rocks. When we started the engine, it spooked them and they went right up to this other boat which was anchored. They had a few people in the water snorkeling, and I was really jealous that I had not thought to bring a mask and snorkel. Anyway, the whales got to about 100 meters away from us and it was so neat. We could here them blowing water, which was really cool. I am definitely going to take a mask and goggles the next time we go out.
By the way, I did not get any pictures because the boat was rockin pretty good and it made me sick to try to focus on one thing through the camera, so sorry, if you want to see the whales, you are going to have to come visit us between January and April. :)

Jessie loves being on the boat, especially when she is feeling sleepy...Katie put her right to sleep there on the front of the boat.

  2. Or...you could come visit us between May-September when they have migrated to Alaska. However, I don't think you could snorkel with them in our frigid ocean water. :)

Love the pics of Jessie's teeth..what a cheeser smile! :)

Can't believe how grown up Katie looks. Last time I saw her, she was like a freshman in high school! Tell her I said hello!
